Regulations of Master of Computer application (MCA) course

The course shall be called MCA-Master of Computer Applications.

DURATION OF THE COURSE
The course of study shall be 6 Semesters each semester from 1 to 5 spanning for four months and 6 th semester over a period of 6 months.


MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION: English

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION :

A candidate with any degree of a minimum of 3 years duration of Bangalore University or of any other University equivalent with a minimum of 50% of marks in the aggregate of all subjects including languages, if any, provided further, that the candidate has studied mathematics/ Computer science/ Business mathematics/Statistics/Computer applications/ Electronics as a subject at PUC level or equivalent HSC (XII Standard) or at Degree level is eligible for admission to MCA course. Relaxation to SC/ST, Group I be extended as per University norms. Further, the minimum qualification shall be as per Government norms in the case of Common Entrance Test.

ATTENDANCE:

A candidate should be considered to have successfully undergone the prescribed course of study if the candidate has attended at least 75% of the classes in each subject (Theory, Lab, and Seminar)

 
SCHEME OF STUDY

The course is of six semesters I to V are for Course work and semester VI is for Dissertation/ project work. The period of project work is normally of six month duration. The project work can be carried out either in the Institution or at an Industry/ Research Organisation approved by the Head of the Department who will supervise and guide the project.

 
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION

:: In each semester (from I to V) a student shall register for all courses of a semester as prescribed.

:: Assessment on 25 marks will form the Internal Assessment marks for each of the theory subject for which 2 tests, each of 60 minutes duration shall be conducted spread over the span of a Semester. In the case of even semesters each student must give a seminar on a topic to be decided by the department. The student shall be assessed on the basis of his presentation and 5 maximum marks be allotted for seminars.

:: The Internal assessment marks in practical course is based on the performance in the Laboratory. The Internal Assessment marks for project work of a candidate is based on the dissertation seminar.

A candidate shall complete examinations of all semesters of MCA course within FIVE years from the date of admissions.
